DESCRIPTION: A key member of the budget/financial management team, this position provides professional level accounting, financial analysis and budget support for various units, and the University as a whole. The duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Work collaboratively with the Budget Team, Accounting Services Team, and the Office of the VP for Finance & Enrollment on a wide variety of projects.
  • Perform detailed financial analysis in support of budget development and monitoring for multiple areas within the University, which may include:
    • Student Revenue projections related to Tuition, Fees, Room, Board, Financial Aid, etc.
    • Enrollment projections and reconciliations
    • Analyze and project expenditures related to Revenue models
    • Capital expenditure planning, analysis and tracking, including analysis of financing alternatives
    • Analyze and project other expenditures
    • Reconcile actual results and analyze differences with projections
    • Investigate variances and contact responsible parties for resolution
    • Develop and maintain modeling related to multi-year projections and multiple scenarios.
    • Work directly with Cabinet members and other senior leadership in support of budget development, tracking and new initiatives.
    • Design and prepare ad hoc reports as needed.
    • Utilize Prophix CPM (Corporate Performance Management) software to facilitate budget development, analysis and reporting:
      • Maintain existing reports and charts
      • Build new reports and charts as needed
      • Assist with maintenance of CPM
      • Participate in developing and updating Dashboards
      • Prepare imports and data entry as needed
      • Keep up with new developments and enhancements to the software
      • Preparation of materials for presentations to various stakeholders including Trustees, President and Cabinet Members, and budget managers.
      • Provide ongoing support to budget managers, including answering questions and inquiries, researching transactions, and problem-solving.
      • Provide training for budget managers related to Office of Business and Finance processes and software, including preparation of training materials.
      • Gather comparative data from external sources for use in analysis and benchmarking.
      • Assist with year-end closing analysis and adjustments, and provide requested reports and analysis to the University's external auditors.
      • Constantly strive to find ways to streamline and improve the efficiency of Budget Office processes.
      • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, working with a diverse group of people including students, faculty, staff, and trustees.
      • Must exercise a high level of independent judgment & confidentiality, including compliance with FERPA.
      • Understand and follow internal control procedures.
      • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned or directed.
        MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Financial Analyst II
        • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Significant relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. CPA or MBA preferred.
        • Two (2) to three (3) years of progressively responsible experience as a budget analyst, financial analyst, accountant, or in similar role or an equivalent combination.
          • Knowledge of GAAP and Not-for-Profit Accounting.
          • Ability to clearly communicate financial information both verbally and in writing to a wide range of audiences, including those with and without a financial background.
          • Strong software skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Pro, Outlook, Access
          • Experience with data warehouses and data integration preferred
          • Experience with Power BI and CPM Software preferred
          • Position requires excellent organizational skills, detail orientation, and excellent analytical & problem solving skills.
          • Successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership & management skills & the ability to work independently in multi-task oriented environment and competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty and staff.
          • Must have demonstrated ability to work effectively with confidential information & with minimal supervision.
            Financial Analyst III
            • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field. Significant relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of degree. CPA or MBA preferred.
            • Three (3) to five (5) years of progressively responsible experience as a budget analyst, financial analyst, accountant or in similar role or an equivalent combination. Higher Education experience preferred.
            • One (1) to three (3) years of experience working with senior leadership and developing multi-year projections.
              • Knowledge of GAAP and Not-for-Profit Accounting.
              • Ability to clearly communicate financial information both verbally and in writing to a wide range of audiences, including those with and without a financial background.
              • Strong software skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Pro, Outlook, Access
              • Experience with data warehouses and data integration preferred
