Job Description:
Job Description The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for
planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the clinical
operations a fast-paced Gastroenterology Surgery Center. As part of
the Administration Team of the center, works alongside the
Administrator and Medical Executive Committee. The individual must
ensure patient needs are met in accordance with instructions of
physician and facility operational procedures, coordinate
activities routinely, as appropriate, with the Executive.
Functions: Provides oversight of all clinical staff Reports to the
Administrator and Medical Director Effectively organizes time,
equipment, supplies, and personnel. Reviews surgery and staffing
schedule on an ongoing basis. Responsible for effective management
of staff productivity as well as teammate schedules and monitoring
compliance of staff---s meal, rest, and recovery time; assists and
provides relief to meet organizational efficiency and budget
requirements. Assist in the training of new hires and annual
training for employees. Display leadership and support in
developing and maintaining effective relationships with the Center
staff and the medical staff. Maintain a collegial relationship with
physicians to ensure quality patient care. Develop and implement
policies and procedures in accordance with the philosophies and
goals of the Center. Review and revise policies in collaboration
with the Administrator, the nursing staff, and executive team.
Responsible for the interpretation, direction, and evaluation of
nursing practice to promote safe, efficient, and therapeutically
nursing care throughout the center. Oversees and directs the
Infection Control Program, and if necessary, acts as facilitator.
Keep up to date on current trends in nursing practice and patient
care. Evaluate special programs and patient care activities.
Collaborates with the Administrator and materials manager in
overseeing materials management and assists in driving cost savings
initiatives Monitor and ensure compliance with government
regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies Review documentation of
patient care to ensure delivery of criteria dictated by legal
practice, state, and federal health standards. Develop an
organizational structure, assigning responsibilities and delegating
authority that will facilitate safe, effective, and efficient care
for the surgical patient. Provide immediate mentoring/coaching to
teammates as needed; ensure compliance of all company policies and
procedures. Manages the flow of all patient care areas, ensures
procedures flow effectively. Oversees the delivery of patient care
to the patients in the facility; directs and delegates patient care
assignments to Pre/Intra/Post staff based on acuteness of patient
care needs, age of patient, staff skill level and availability
Maintain performance improvement activities within the department
and contribute to continuous quality improvement activities.
Communicates with all departments to identify potential problems
and coordinate patient care. Consults with interdisciplinary team
members as required and adjusts patient care as indicated to
provide optimal care. Serves as a clinical resource for the
department regarding patient care and clinical documentation in
accordance with standards of practice. Monitors and ensures
accurate recording of medical records. Runs Quality Assurance
Performance Improvement Committee (QAPI). Remains current and
ensures compliance of state and federal laws and HIPAA. Provides
oversight of all facilities and clinical staff. Performs nursing
care for patients across all clinical departments, as needed.
Required to travel per business needs. Handles additional
responsibilities assigned by the Administrator and/or Executive
Committee. Skills and Qualifications: 5-10 years of OR
circulating/professional experience in the field. Critical Thinking
Skills. Advanced written and verbal communication skills. Team
building and conflict resolution skills. Demonstrate knowledge and
interpersonal skills necessary to tactfully direct the efforts of
diverse health professionals to meet patient and physician needs.
Ability to direct, coordinate and control the multi-disciplinary
activities for patients undergoing surgical intervention in a safe
environment. Extensive knowledge of AORN standards, infection
control and sterilization practices. Knowledge of regulatory
licensing, certifications, and accreditations (CA, CMS, CDC, DEA,
OSHA, CLIA, HHHAC). Current knowledge regarding gastroenterology
procedures. Current ACLS, PALS and BLS certifications. Preferred
Qualifications: Managerial competency; Minimum 2 years of
management experience in an ambulatory center or operating room in
an acute care hospital. Master---s Degree in Nursing of Business or
equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. CNOR
Peri-Op 101 Certification Requirements: Valid & Current CA
Registered Nurse license Proof of legal US work eligibility Valid
